The House Blessing Cross Box,  by artist Jan Barboglio is one of a series of Boxed Blessings. Each Boxed Blessing contains a square head nail for the purpose of hanging.  Recognized for her artistic expression using hand cast iron, each piece is hand worked, hammered, sanded, and hand finished.  Variations of shading and texture are characteristic of the old world process.  Each piece is slightly different.  An iron sealed card is attached that reads the following:

The Blessings of places of protection, production and fertility, such as a home, a garden, farm or place of business, has a long history in Mexican and Latin American countries.  These crosses and angels are given as a traditional blessing and sign of continued protection. 

They are sometimes nailed into a tree,  the side of an outdoor building or garden wall,  as well as placed insided a new home or new place of business.  Many older and traditional families additionally collect a different cross for each member of their family - in some cases,  this creates a family wall of blessings.
